The Parlour is the literary magazine published by Walkden House Press, dedicated to writing that feels alive, attentive, and grounded in lived experience.
The magazine is interested in work that values presence as much as craft: writing attentive to thought, feeling, memory, conversation, and the overlooked textures of everyday life.
We publish poetry, short fiction, and creative nonfiction from writers of all ages, welcoming work that is quiet or bold, polished or exploratory.
Alongside publication itself, The Parlour aims to create a literary culture rooted in attentiveness, sincerity, and openness to emerging voices.
Contributors may request anonymity, though where possible we present each piece with the writer’s name, age, and town — placing the work within the world it comes from.
Submissions are read carefully and conversationally, with attention not only to technique, but to the feeling held within the writing and the space it leaves for the reader to enter.
The first issue is currently open for submissions under the optional theme Meeting.
